The Cathedral Basilica of Cusco

The initial stop of this adventure is in the Cathedral Basilica of the Virgin of the Assumption, a construction of more than 550 years old and located the Plaza de Armas of Cusco. It was built specifically in the year 1560 on the Inca Huiracocha palace.

Its structure is impressive and its old facade. But its greatest treasures are located within it, when you enter you can enjoy more than 300 paintings from the Cusqueña School, and works in embossed silver and carved wood.

Also known as the Convent of Santo Domingo is the second religious site to visit. It is considered the most important of the Inca empire, but in detail we will realize that its facade and interior corresponds to the fusion between the Spanish Inca culture. Here we will also see very beautiful and artistic paintings.

In the surroundings of Cusco is the third stop, an enigmatic place called Sacsayhuaman. It is a structure made from huge carved stones, approximately 9 meters high and weighing at least 100 tons. These are arranged in an organized and in perfect position to form three platforms of 390 meters long.
If you do the City Tour Cusco in June, specifically on June 24, you can enjoy here the Sun Festival or Inti Raymi, an annual and emblematic celebration of the city, full of culture.

The fourth stop is the center of cults and ceremonies dedicated to Mother Earth, which is a bit destroyed by time, but not so much as to call it ruins. History says that this was an amphitheater of cults where the Incas were placed for ceremonies, the dead were laid on the trapezoid structures found there.

Puca Pucara

It is also known as the red fortress because the stones with which it was built have become  his color due to its high iron levels. In addition to the fortress you can see other archaeological structures such as aqueducts, enclosures and fountains. Because of its closeness to Tambomachay and its characteristics, it is believed that it constituted a strong military defense of this place.

And last, but not least, we have Tambomachay or the well-known resting place, just 100 meters from Puca Pucara. It is made of carved rocks, which form a beautiful set of channels and waterfalls, from springs. This is why this place was an enclosure of water worship.
